What these notices were

Alerts carried a short item to the sector when something had been published, a study had been commissioned or a finding had come out of a piece of research. They were not news in the sense of current events and they were not library entries. They were the short form: what has appeared, why it matters to the people managing security, and where to read more.

Both notices below concern training and technology, which is where a good deal of the sector's practice changed in the years they were published. The alert on the training project set out the research question that the project was built to answer. The alert on communications technology set out what a change in the tools available does to the exposure of the people using them.

Why these pages are still here

The notices were published under an addressing scheme this site no longer uses, and they are still referenced from outside. Removing them would break those references, so they are kept at their original addresses.

Practical guidance and research on the security of humanitarian staff, for the organisations that send them.
