This paper provides a review of effective smart practices in security risk management and recommendations that would support the improvement of the World University Service of Canada’s (WUSC) security risk management plan.

The secondary intention of this paper is to create a body of knowledge for other international development organizations seeking to improve upon or develop a security risk management plan or system.

Through the assessment of both academic and grey literature, as well as the collection of information from staff at a number of international development organizations, this document summarizes common frameworks and tools, examines environmental context, shared challenges, and opportunities for the international development field.
